South Sefton Access Service

There has been significant pressure on GP services in the last couple of years, and we know that this causes you worry and frustration when you need to see a GP.  We want you to have access to the best possible care at the point that you need it.  To enable this, your local GP practice have invested heavily in to establishing the South Sefton Access Service.

Seeing our first patient on 14 February 2023, the South Sefton Access Service hub began by providing appointments over 3 days each week.  Feedback from patients and GPs has been very positive, enabling us to expand rapidly, and we now operate five days per week working across multiple locations in South Sefton.  We have clinics in Bootle, Ford, Crosby, Maghull and Thornton, and we are now an embedded part of your General Practice partnership.  By November 2023, we had seen our 10,000th patient, and 98% of all patients visiting the service would recommend it to their friends and family.

The scope of the service is predominantly upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. chest infections and Covid-19) and some Ear, Nose, Throat, and eye conditions, with most patients being seen by Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Paramedics under the supervision of GPs.  Out team can see any patient over 2 years old who needs assessment for a new occurrence of an acute, minor illness.

Patients are booked in for an appointment in the South Sefton Access Service by contacting their own GP where receptionists and care navigators can book patients directly in without the need for patients to be redirected elsewhere.
